
Onteora Students Share Their Community Mentorship Experiences
The community mentor program at Onteora High School offers students in Grades 9-12 the unique opportunity to pursue their passions and interests with the guidance of community-based professionals. The program allows participants to explore potential career paths and gain practical knowledge, personal growth, and valuable friendships.
Student Presenters Share Their Mentorship Experiences
On June 6th, the student presenters shared their experiences during the community mentor program at Onteora High School. The students had engaged in a variety of subjects during their mentorships, including fine arts, engineering, veterinary medicine, real estate, pastry-making, and sports journalism.
Sports Journalism Mentorship
Grade 11 student David Troeger had the opportunity to explore sports journalism with Crispin Kott of Hudson Valley One. Troeger, who dreams of working for ESPN one day, had previously published work in magazines such as BimmerLife. During his mentorship experience, Troeger worked on a piece that explored his own perspectives and opinions about Onteora High School sports. He enjoyed the opportunity to explore different types of writing and gain practical knowledge about sports journalism.
Sports Photography Mentorship
Grade 11 student Natalie Hastie studied sports photography with New York City-based photographer Ira L. Black. Hastie’s mentorship experience increased her understanding of lighting and how to use photos to tell a story. Her selection of photographs on display reflected her love for photography and sports. Although she may not pursue photography as her career, one of her dreams is to take photographs at the World Cup.
