Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Unveils New $10.6 Million Regional Cancer Center in Upper Peninsula
A Positive Development for the Region
It is not uncommon for newspapers to be criticized for not focusing enough on the good things happening in the community. However, Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson recently unveiled its new Regional Cancer Center, which is only the second comprehensive treatment facility in the Upper Peninsula. This new addition is worth celebrating as it provides cutting-edge cancer treatment, access to clinical trials, and a comfortable healing environment for patients.
Comfortable Environment for Patients
The new cancer center is an 8,000-square-foot hospital addition equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a special area with private rooms where patients can receive infusion treatments in padded recliners. These recliners provide heat and massage if desired, and most of the rooms offer a view outside with televisions and space for two people if necessary. The waiting area is similar to a living room with comfy chairs and a simulated fireplace to make patients feel more at ease.
Promise Fulfilled
Marshfield Clinic Health System acquired the former Dickinson County Healthcare System in February 2022 and promised to establish such a facility in Iron Mountain as part of a pledged $26 million capital investment over five years. The opening of the cancer center has fulfilled this promise, providing residents in the area with more cancer treatment options closer to home.
Stronger Community
Donors have already contributed to the cancer center’s capital campaign which has almost reached its fundraising goal. State Senator Ed McBroom praised the development stating that not long ago, the future of the hospital appeared in jeopardy. He added that this development is instrumental in making the community stronger, and we look forward to seeing how the new regional cancer center increases the level of care available in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin for years to come.
