The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Elects New Board Members

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has elected new board members to help advance their mission of promoting animal health and welfare while advocating for the veterinary profession.

New AVMA President Promises to Support the Profession and Mentor the Next Generation

Janet Donlin Faeh is the new President of the AVMA, pledging to support the profession through mentorship and collaboration with colleagues across the industry. Faeh has been involved in organized veterinary medicine for nearly 30 years, beginning in 1995 when she served as the national Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) president.

As president, Faeh is committed to protecting the integrity of the veterinarian-client-patient-relationship and focusing on the needs of AVMA members.

AVMA President-Elect Makes History

Dr. Douglas Kratt Bailey has made history for the AVMA, becoming their first Black president-elect. With a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University, Dr. Bailey has served on the facilities of Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, and Tuskegee University, and has been involved in organized veterinary medicine at both the state and national level.

Dr. Bailey is currently serving as the director of medical innovations in telemedicine for an international telemedicine consulting business and an AAAS/AVMA Congressional fellow serving as a full-time scientific legislative adviser within a congressional office.

AVMA Board Adds 3 New Members

The AVMA has also added 3 additional board members: Dr. Scott Knapp, Dr. Sue Willis, and Dr. Elisa J. Marshall.

Dr. Knapp, a small animal practitioner in Columbus, Ohio, has been active in organized veterinary medicine for more than 20 years, serving in various capacities for the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and the AVMA.

Dr. Willis, a small animal internist for Zoetis Reference Labs in Mukilteo, Washington, has also been involved in numerous AVMA committees and boards, including chairing the AVMA House Advisory Committee and serving as a member of the Strategic Management Committee and Budget Finance Review Committee.

Dr. Marshall, owner of 2 small animal clinics and founder of a feline-exclusive practice, is a former SCAVMA president and past president of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.

Conclusion

With these new board members, the AVMA will continue to work towards their mission of promoting animal health and welfare while advocating for the veterinary profession. The addition of Dr. Bailey as the first Black president-elect and the continued commitment of Dr. Faeh to mentor the next generation show that the AVMA is determined to support their members and make positive changes in the industry.
