Tehama County Cattlemen Scholarship Committee Awards 2024 Ron Knight Memorial Scholarships
The Tehama County Cattlemen Scholarship Committee recently awarded seven $2,000 Ron Knight Memorial Scholarships to students pursuing courses related to agriculture. These scholarships are a tribute to Ronald S. Knight, a community leader and UC Livestock Advisor at the Tehama County Cooperative Extension for many years.
Scholarship Recipients
Hannah Endres
Hannah Endres, a 2021 Corning High School graduate attending Chico State University, received a scholarship. Her passion for cattle and the agricultural industry led her to pursue a degree in Agricultural Education to become an ag teacher. She hopes to inspire students and make a difference in their lives, communities, and school culture.
Catlyn Mackey
Catlyn Mackey, a 2023 Red Bluff High School graduate attending Lassen Community College, also received a scholarship. Working for a local ranch for many years ignited her passion for ranching and cattle operations. She plans to own a commercial show calf business and a horse breeding and training operation, while also pursuing a rodeo career and qualifying for the NFR.
Hayley Byrd
Another scholarship recipient is Hayley Byrd, a 2024 Corning High School graduate. Byrd plans to pursue a degree in Agricultural Communications and educate the public about where their food comes from. Moreover, she aims to communicate the various benefits of agriculture in the Tehama County economy. She is also an accomplished Sheep Showman and leader in both FFA and 4-H.
Jordan Brandt
Jordan Brandt, a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate planning to attend the University of Florida, received the scholarship as well. She plans to focus on developing and applying agriculture technology to small farms while pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business. Additionally, Brandt excels in academics and is currently the National Honors Society Vice President and a 2nd-year intern for NASA Astrobiology.
Ryan Raglin
Ryan Raglin, a 2024 Whittenberg Country School graduate, is another scholarship recipient. He plans to own and operate his own butcher shop and specifically a degree in meat science to achieve this goal. Raglin is also an active volunteer in various organizations and church youth groups.
Kayley Hausman
Kayley Hausman, a 2023 Red Bluff High School graduate with honors currently attending Cal Poly SLO, received a scholarship. She is pursuing a major in Animal Science and a minor in Ag Business and Equine Therapy. Hausman is currently on the honor roll at her university and a member of the Cal Poly Rodeo Team.
Alize Miranda
Alize Miranda, a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate, received a scholarship as well. Miranda plans to attend Shasta College for two years before transferring to UC Davis to become a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her eventual goal is to open her own practice. Miranda is also heavily involved in athletics, extracurricular activities, and various volunteer roles in the community.
Reba Bartolomei
Reba Bartolomei, a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate with a cumulative GPA of 4.21, received a scholarship. She plans to attend Florida Southern University and pursue degrees in Biology and Veterinary Medicine. Her goal is to become a livestock Veterinarian. Florida Southern offers numerous internships to acquire hands-on experience at veterinary clinics, ranches, and farms.
Conclusion
The Tehama County Cattlemen Scholarship Committee awarded $14,000 in scholarships to seven deserving students pursuing agricultural degrees in honor of Ronald S. Knight’s memory. These scholarship recipients demonstrate a passion for the agricultural industry and a commitment to making a difference in their communities, and we wish them all success in their future endeavors.
