Is NEET Required for Every Medical Course?
NEET, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a medical entrance examination in India for selecting students to study undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses. While NEET is mandatory for MBBS courses, there are several other medical courses where NEET score is not required for admission. Here are some of them:
Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)
For admission to the BHMS course, the candidates do not require NEET score. With a minimum of 50% marks in Plus Two, candidates can take admission to BHMS course, which deals with the study of homeopathic medicine.
Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
To study Pharmacy, candidates should pass Plus Two with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Maths. NEET score is not required for BPharm admission.
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
For BAMS admission, a minimum of 50% marks in Plus Two with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects is required. NEET score is not mandatory for admission to BAMS courses.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)
Students must pass Plus Two with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) to get admission in BPT. NEET score is not required for admission to BPT courses.
Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH)
BVSc & AH courses deal with the study of animals and their health. A minimum of 50% marks in Plus Two with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is required for admission to BVSc & AH courses. NEET score is not required for BVSc & AH admission.
Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS)
For BUMS admission, a minimum of 50% marks in Plus Two with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Maths is required. However, NEET score is optional and depends on the college.
Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS)
NEET is not mandatory for admission to BNYS courses. However, some colleges may prefer NEET score for BNYS admission. The minimum eligibility criteria are Plus Two with 50% marks.
Paramedical Courses
Paramedical courses include diploma and bachelor’s degree courses in healthcare and allied fields, such as medical laboratory technology, radiography, nursing, etc. A minimum of 50% marks in Plus Two with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Maths is required for admission to paramedical courses. NEET score may or may not be required, depending on the college and the course.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
NEET score is mandatory for admission to MBBS courses. Without NEET, candidates cannot take admission to MBBS courses. MBBS is an undergraduate medical degree course, the successful completion of which makes one a certified medical practitioner.
In conclusion, NEET is not required for every medical course, but only for MBBS courses. The importance of NEET is increasing day by day in the field of medical education in India.
